Press Release Details

  • Organisation: Prince’s Government of Monaco
  • Location: Promenade Honoré II, Monaco

Summary

A new outdoor sports area dedicated to children has opened on Promenade Honoré II, reinforcing Monaco’s commitment to family-friendly urban planning, active lifestyles and safe public spaces within residential neighbourhoods.

The Principality of Monaco has inaugurated a new outdoor sports area for children on Promenade Honoré II, offering young residents a dedicated and secure space for football and ball games in the heart of a residential district.

Officially opened in early December, the facility reflects the Prince’s Government’s ongoing efforts to integrate community wellbeing, youth recreation and urban development. Positioned along one of the Principality’s most frequented promenades, the new pitch complements the nearby children’s playground, expanding opportunities for active outdoor play for families living in the area.

Designed for safety and neighbourhood harmony

Particular attention has been given to ensuring the sports area integrates smoothly into its surroundings. The pitch is fully enclosed with protective netting, preventing balls from entering adjacent streets and reducing potential disturbances.

A shock-absorbing playing surface has been installed to minimise injury risks, while the prohibition of leather balls helps limit noise levels — a measure designed to preserve the tranquillity of nearby residences without compromising children’s enjoyment of the space.

Free access with seasonal opening hours

The sports area is freely accessible to the public and operates according to daylight conditions:

  • November to March: 9:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.

  • April to October: 9:00 a.m. – 7:00 p.m.

These hours ensure safe use throughout the year, accommodating both shorter winter days and extended summer evenings.

Part of a wider recreational strategy

The new facility forms part of a broader strategy to expand accessible outdoor recreation for young people across the Principality. It complements existing infrastructure such as the CityStade on Quai Antoine Ier, which primarily serves older children and teenagers.

Together, these amenities contribute to a tiered network of public sports facilities, offering age-appropriate spaces for informal play without the need for reservations or memberships.

A long-term vision for active public spaces

Government representatives have indicated that this inauguration is one step in an ongoing programme to enhance public spaces that promote physical activity, social interaction and quality of life for all generations.

For families, the new sports area provides a practical solution: a safe, purpose-built environment where children can play freely, while maintaining a peaceful atmosphere for local residents — reinforcing Monaco’s commitment to thoughtful, people-centred urban planning.
