Monaco will celebrate its patron saint, Sainte Dévote, on Monday, January 26, with a blend of ancient tradition and modern spectacle. The annual event commemorates the 4th-century martyr whose legendary voyage to Monaco established her as the Principality’s guardian.
The day begins with the Messe des Traditions in Monegasque at Église Sainte-Dévote, followed in the evening by the procession of relics through the historic streets. At dusk, the central ritual sees the symbolic barque set ablaze in the historic port.
This year, for the first time, the ceremonial fire will be complemented by an eight-minute drone show at 20:15, bringing the saint’s story to life in the night sky through light and animation.
To ensure public safety, key pedestrian and road routes, including Vallon Sainte-Dévote, Boulevard Albert I, and Avenue J.F. Kennedy, will experience closures and traffic adjustments from the late afternoon through the evening. Public transport routes will also adapt in coordination with the event.
The celebrations continue on Tuesday, January 27, with a Pontifical Mass at Cathedral Notre-Dame-Immaculée, followed by a procession through Monaco-Ville, blessing the palace, city, and sea.
The fête of Sainte Dévote remains a signature Monaco event, showcasing the Principality’s unique blend of faith, heritage, and pageantry, where centuries-old legends are celebrated in a modern urban setting.
