Monaco and Mauritius Establish Formal Diplomatic Relations

MONACO — August 30, 2026 — The Principality of Monaco and the Republic of Mauritius have formally established diplomatic relations, opening the way for closer cooperation between the two countries. The agreement was signed on August 25, 2026, in New York by Monaco’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Isabelle Picco, and Mauritius’ Permanent Representative, Milan J. N. Meetarbhan. The establishment of diplomatic ties brings together two island states with a strong interest in marine conservation and sustainable development. Following the signing, representatives discussed potential cooperation in environmental protection, sustainable tourism and education. The new relationship also creates opportunities to exchange experience in areas connected with the blue economy and sustainable management of marine resources. For Monaco, the agreement adds Mauritius to its growing network of international relationships and reinforces the Principality’s emphasis on environmental cooperation and responsible ocean management.
