Monaco Commemorates 82nd Anniversary of Liberation
A ceremony and historic vehicle parade honour those who liberated Monaco in September 1944.
MONACO — September 5, 2026 — Monaco marked the 82nd anniversary of its liberation from German occupation on September 3 with a commemorative ceremony throughout the Principality.
Members of Association MonacoUSA joined Monegasque, French and Italian participants in a historic parade featuring restored Second World War vehicles and authentic military uniforms.
The procession travelled from Avenue Saint-Laurent toward Place du Palais, with commemorative stops at the Maison de France, the Conseil National and the Mairie.
Wreaths were laid in honour of Allied forces, Monaco's Resistance fighters and victims of the wartime period.
The annual commemoration provides an opportunity for Monaco to preserve the memory of the events surrounding its liberation in 1944 and recognise those who contributed to ending the occupation.
The ceremony also brought together residents and participants from Monaco's international community in remembrance of a significant chapter in the Principality's history.
