Monaco Completes Restoration of Historic Saint-Charles Church

The two-year restoration project has returned the 19th-century landmark to its original splendor.

MONACO — December 17, 2026 — The Monaco Government has announced the completion of a two-year restoration project on the historic Saint-Charles Church in Monte Carlo, one of the Principality's most important 19th-century landmarks. The restoration work included cleaning and repairing the church's stone facade, restoring its stained-glass windows, and renovating the interior, including its ornate altarpieces and frescoes. A team of conservators, architects, and artisans worked closely with historians to ensure the restoration preserved the church's original character. The church, built in the 19th century, is a significant example of the Principality's architectural heritage and remains an active place of worship for the local community. "Restoring this church is about honoring our past while ensuring it remains a living part of Monaco's future," said the Minister of Cultural Affairs. "We are proud of the craftsmanship and care that went into this project." A public open day will be held on December 20, 2026, to celebrate the completion of the restoration.
