Opéra de Monte-Carlo Enters Cinema With First Film Production

MONACO — September 11, 2026 — The Opéra de Monte-Carlo is entering the world of cinema with its first film production, bringing Christoph Willibald Gluck's Orphée et Eurydice from the opera stage to the screen. The project stars Cecilia Bartoli, director of the Opéra de Monte-Carlo, in the role of Orphée and represents a new way for the Monaco institution to present opera to wider audiences. The production aims to combine the musical tradition of the opera with the visual possibilities of cinema while preserving the central story of love, loss and devotion. The initiative forms part of the opera company's broader effort to explore new formats and bring Monaco's artistic institutions to audiences beyond the Principality. The film is being developed for release in 2027, opening a new chapter for one of Monaco's most recognised cultural institutions.
